Annual John Thibault Memorial Awards Event

The Third Annual Thibault event was a huge success. Last year's winners, David Fast (Foley lab) and Wan Kong Yip (Shumulevitz lab) presented their findings from the conferences they attended.

As well, this year's winners were announced. Congratulations to the John Thibault 2017 Citizenship Winner, Chris Morcos (Burshtyn lab) and the Travel Award Winners Fran Cristi Munoz (Shmulevitz lab) and Ken Gavina (Yanow lab). Thank you to all those who attended and participated. A very special thank you goes out to John's family.

This was a two-day event, with a themed focus on “Scientific Responses to Economic Challenges and Opportunities”, assembled scientists and clinicians at the University of Alberta to facilitate collaborative efforts among colleagues, trainees, external partners and stakeholders who are working in the field of infectious diseases. Tyrrell will be joined by the Honourable Jim Edwards— former Member of Parliament, former broadcaster and former University of Alberta Board Chair.

2015 Governor General's Gold Medal

Daniel U.Congratulations to Dr. Daniel Unterweger (Pukatzki lab) who has been selected as one of two winners of the 2015 Governor General's Gold Medal. This award recognizes the doctoral graduate who achieves the highest academic standing/cumulative scholarly achievement at the University of Alberta. Congratulations, Daniel! What an achievement!

2015 Summer Student Event

We had another successful Summer Student event this year, run by Drs. Stefan Pukatzki and Maya Shmulevitz on August 14th. It was a wonderful science filled afternoon. Well done to our 2015 Summer Students! This year's poster prize winners were: Peter Norris (Evans Lab), Marya Aman (Evans Lab) and Brendon Lamarche (West Lab).

B. Parsons

Brendon Parsons (PhD student in the Foley Lab) presented at the 2014 BCID Conference which was held June 4-8, 2014. The conference was a huge success!

ImmuNet Research Day 2013

IRD or ImmuNet Research Day is an annual student organized conference designed to help students develop and improve their presentation skills through oral and poster presentations. It builds a perfect platform for exchanging ideas and sharing the latest research in the fields of Immunology, Virology, Microbiology, Cell Biology and Medical Research. IRD evolved from the ImmuNet Retreat, in order to connect the University of Edmonton with the Universities of Calgary and Saskatchewan to exchange scientific knowledge and build up a future network for cooperation. In addition, IRD will feature a keynote speaker whose experience and scientific knowledge will help to guide the next generation of successful researchers.
